Memoir Writing Prompt: Rescue Dog Owners Unite!
My husband fell in love with our one-eyed rescue dog online. Even though Lacey had been at the shelter for a month, he rushed right over—afraid she would be gone soon. When I got home and realized my birthday present was a one-eyed dog, I had my doubts about her. However, within a few minutes, she had curled up on my lap and had reached deep into my heart and became mine. That was nine years ago. Lacey has traveled to Phoenix and Kansas with us. She loves to ride and is always ready to go—an awesome constant companion giving love to all she meets.
I grew up on a farm tucked far away from town in the Allegheny mountains of Pennsylvania. From time to time, we had a dog dropped off in the middle of the night. And our family adopted every one of them. We gave them love, warmth, and a new start. In return, each one gave us love and long-lasting friendship.
